Snyder, TX — Lady Westerners held off Lamar Community College for a 3-2 victory on Monday afternoon.
Western Texas scored in the 31st minute when Rosa Emma Ortega converted a pass from Emma Garcia for her third goal of the season, giving the Lady Westerners the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Lamar equalized in the 51st minute, but the Lady Westerners quickly regained control. Just three minutes later, Ella Faith Schultz found the back of the net off a feed from Magalie De Alba, pushing WTC back in front.
In the 64th minute, Ortega struck again — her second of the day and fourth of the season — on an unassisted goal to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Lamar pulled one back in the 75th minute, but Western Texas closed the game to secure the 3-2 win.
WTC dominated offensively with 27 total shots (13 on goal) and 6 corner kicks. Ortega led all players with six shots on frame, while Schultz added three shots, two on goal.
Goalkeeper Mika Stanfield tallied three saves in the full 90 minutes to earn the win.
With the victory, the Lady Westerners improve to 2-0-1 on the season. They will return to action on Friday, September 5, traveling to face Garden City Community College at 5:00 PM in Garden City, KS.
