El Paso, TX – The Lady Westerners (24-22, 7-9) completed a dominant series sweep of the El Paso Community College Tejanas on Saturday, earning run-rule victories of 10-0 and 14-2.
Game One
Honey Morales powered the Lady Westerners to a 10-0 win, driving in four runs on three hits. Morales got things started early with a two-run home run to left field in the first inning, then added a two-run double in the fifth.
Western Texas jumped out quickly at the top of the first when Morales homered, and Laney Vasquez followed with an RBI single. Olivia Marks extended the lead in the second inning with a two-run home run to right field.
Bryiana Barajas was dominant in the circle, tossing a five-inning shutout. She allowed just three hits while striking out six and walking two.
The Lady Westerners totaled 14 hits in the game, with Marks, Morales, and Karissa Juarez each collecting three hits.
Game Two
A nine-run first inning set the tone in a 14-2 victory to complete the sweep.
The explosive inning featured contributions up and down the lineup: Rodriguez opened with a solo home run, Ava Ramriez doubled in two runs, Vasquez added an RBI single, Kaylee Upton delivered a two-run double, Rodriguez added an RBI double, Morales singled in a run, and an error plated another.
Western Texas added three more runs in the second inning behind RBI singles from Upton and Marks. In the third, Karissa Juarez hit a solo home run, and Ramriez scored on a sacrifice play to extend the lead.
Hailee Pena earned the win in the circle, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings while striking out four and walking three.
The Lady Westerners finished with 15 hits in game two.
