RANGER, TX — The Western Texas College Lady Westerners earned a non-conference road sweep Friday afternoon over the Ranger College Lady Rangers, winning 6–2 in Game 1 and 9–4 in Game 2.
Game 1: Western Texas 6, Ranger 2
Western Texas got on the board in the top of the second inning when Anely Paz delivered a double to spark the offense.
Ranger tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a single to make it 2–2. The Lady Westerners answered in the top of the seventh with a four-run rally. Ava Ramirez ripped a two-run double to give Western Texas the lead, Honey Morales followed with an RBI single, and Briyana Medina drove in another run on a groundout to extend the advantage to 6–2.
Madison Roberts was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game. The sophomore right-hander allowed five hits and two runs — both unearned — over seven innings while striking out five and walking two.
Game 2: Western Texas 9, Ranger 4
Ranger took advantage of an early error to grab a 1–0 lead in the first inning, but Western Texas quickly responded.
In the third, Briyana Medina reached on a fielder's choice that brought in a run, and Karissa Juarez followed with an RBI triple to give the Lady Westerners a 2–1 edge.
The fourth inning proved decisive. Ava Ramriez lifted a sacrifice fly to score Laney Vasquez, Janie Rodriguez added an RBI single, and Briyana Medina blasted a three-run home run to center field to stretch the lead to 7–1. Olivia Marks later singled home Juarez to make it 8–1.
Ranger answered in the bottom of the fourth and added another run on a groundout to cut the deficit to 8–3. Juarez responded in the sixth with a solo home run to center field, pushing the lead to 9–3. Ranger added one final run in the bottom half of the inning, but Western Texas closed out the 9–4 victory.
Western Texas will face Lamar Community College on March 1 with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CST, followed by Game 2 at 1:00 p.m.
