Midland, TX – Savhanna Thompson reached a milestone Saturday evening, surpassing 200 career points as the Lady Westerners battled Midland College on the road. Thompson led Western Texas College with 9 kills on 24 attempts, hitting .250 while adding 11 digs and a solo block. Lady Westerners fell to the Chaps in straight sets (17-25, 17-25, 16-25).
Western Texas started strong in the opening set with a 4-0 run to take an early 4-1 lead. The Chaps answered to tie it at 4-4, and both teams traded points midway through, locked at 11-11. Midland found their rhythm late and closed the set 25-17.
WTC trailed early 1-4 in the second set but battled back to within one at 5-6. The Chaps pushed ahead with an 11-5 run, and although the Lady Westerners cut it to 15-18, Midland held on to take the frame 25-17.
In the final set, the Lady Westerners again opened hot with a 5-2 lead before the Chaps answered with nine straight points to seize control. Midland maintained the momentum and sealed the sweep 25-16.
As a team, Western Texas hit .073 for the match, recording 7 kills in set one (.048), 8 in set two (.185), and 6 in the third (.032).
Aubrie Frazier added 5 kills and 3 block assists. Setter Sydney Roberts tallied 12 assists, marking her eighth consecutive match with 10 or more assists and her 19th of the season with double-digit totals.
Western Texas College will return home on Wednesday, October 15, to host Frank Phillips College at the WTC Gymnasium in Snyder, TX. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. CDT.
