Roswell, NM – Western Texas College showed stretches of competitive play but fell 3-0 to No. 11 New Mexico Military Institute on Saturday afternoon, with set scores of 13-25, 13-25, and 20-25.
The Lady Westerners finished with a .158 hitting percentage on the night, while the Broncos hit .317.
In the opening set, WTC stayed within striking distance at 11-14 before NMMI pulled away to take control. The second set followed a similar pattern, with the Lady Westerners battling to keep it close early at 8-10, but the Broncos surged ahead.
The third set was WTC's strongest, with a .250 hitting percentage. After a timeout late in the frame, the Lady Westerners rallied for four straight points to close the gap to 20-23, but NMMI held on to secure the sweep.
Savhanna Thompson led the attack with nine kills, a .269 hitting percentage, and one service ace, finishing with a team-high 10 points. Anayah Sinclair followed with eight kills and three blocks, while middle blocker Maja Ludyga added six kills on an efficient .364 hitting percentage along with two blocks. Aubrie Frazier chipped in five kills and a block assist, and Samantha Loera anchored the defense with a team-best nine digs. Setter Sydney Roberts directed the offense with 13 assists, and Loera added 11 more.
Next, the Lady Westerners return home to face Odessa College on Tuesday, October 1, at 6 p.m. in the WTC Gymnasium.
