Since beginning his tenure in 1996, rodeo Coach Greg Rhodes has continued to build and solidify the tradition that identifies Western Texas College as one of the dominant college rodeo programs in the nation. Adding to their national presence, Rhodes’ crew captured the college rodeo national championship in 2009. The men’s rodeo team also won the Southwest Region on the way to the national championship.

During his 18 years, Coach Rhodes has over-seen a combined 26 National or Reserve Championships, 12 National Championships and 14 Reserve National Champions (team or individuals).

Western Texas College also claimed its share of academic honors under Rhodes. The rodeo teams have had at least one individual receive an All-American academic award at the national level each year under Rhodes’ leadership, with some years featuring multiple awards.

As one of the most successful college rodeo coaches in the nation, Rhodes is known as a coach who introduces his student athletes to the mental approach of performing and winning, as well as the technical mechanics. Rhodes has had the opportunity to study and associate with some of the most successful athletes in the world.

Rhodes competed in the rodeo program at Western Texas College before moving on to New Mexico State University, where he earned a degree in agricultural economics. Rhodes was involved in the animal health industry prior to taking the reins of the WTC Rodeo program.

Rhodes and his wife Canita have two children, Cayelea and Brenon. The Rhodes family resides in Snyder, Texas.
