Lady Westerners Complete Round One at NJCAA National Championship
Coal Valley, IL – Day one of four at the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship is complete at Oakwood Country Club as the No. 10 Western Texas College Lady Westerners opened competition against a field of 86 athletes representing 15 institutions.
The championship course played as a par-71 layout stretching 5,920 yards. After the opening round, the Lady Westerners sit in 11th place with a team score of 329.
The Lady Westerners began the tournament on hole 10 and were led by Wildah Jarestam, who is tied for 21st after carding a +7 (78). Jarestam closed the day with one birdie, coming on the eighth hole.
Brooke Ahn is tied for 40th after shooting an opening-round 82 (+11). Ahn recorded the team's first birdie of the tournament on the 14th hole.
Lupita Barbosa also sits tied for 40th following round one. Khensani Mhotsha is tied for 65th at 16-over-par (87) and added a birdie during her round. Rounding out the lineup for the Westerners was Sienna Thumwood, who is tied for 71st after posting an 18-over 89.
Notes
- The Lady Westerners recorded three birdies on par-3 holes measuring 140, 160, and 140 yards.
- The team finished +9 on par-3s.
Round two is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. with the Lady Westerners teeing off from hole 1.
