Tyler, TX – The Lady Westerners women's basketball team traveled to Tyler, Texas, this past weekend, where they dropped both games against tough competition. Western Texas College fell 41–83 to Tyler Junior College and 48–83 to Collin County Community College.
In the opener, WTC struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting just 22.6% from the field and 19% from three-point range. Jacqueline Cleveland led the way with a season-high 12 points, including three from beyond the arc. Shani Johnson added 7 points off the bench, while Na'Khiyah Porras pulled down 6 rebounds and Marissa Garcia dished out 4 assists. Despite an impressive 86.7% from the free-throw line, the Lady Westerners couldn't overcome their cold shooting night.
The following game saw improvement on the offensive end, with WTC shooting 34.7% from the field and 31.8% from deep. Essania Landers paced the team with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in a balanced performance. Kynli Hart followed with 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while Kaley O'Neal provided a spark off the bench with 8 points. However, 31 turnovers proved costly in the 48–83 loss to Collin County.
The Lady Westerners will look to bounce back as they travel to Weatherford, TX, to face Weatherford College on November 11th at 6:30 p.m.
