Gainesville, TX — The Lady Westerners (5–3, 0–0) completed a two-game sweep of North Central Texas College on Saturday afternoon, earning victories of 5–4 (9 innings) and 12–6.
Game One | Western Texas College 5, NCTC 4 (9 innings)
Game one went to extra innings after the score was tied at four. In the top of the ninth, Briyana Medina delivered the game-winner with a solo home run to right field.
Western Texas College struck first in the opening inning when an NCTC error allowed two runs to score. The Lady Westerners added to the lead in the second as Janie Rodriguez doubled down the right-field line to drive in a run.
After NCTC tied the game, a sacrifice fly by Laney Vasquez in the top of the seventh gave Western Texas College a 4–3 lead before the Lions answered to force extra innings.
In the circle, Madison Roberts got the start, allowing six hits and three runs over four innings while striking out two and walking three. Briyana Barajas earned the win in relief, pitching five strong innings and surrendering just one run on three hits, striking out six and walking two.
Game Two | Western Texas College 12, NCTC 6
Briyana Medina once again led the offense in game two, driving in four runs on four hits to power the Lady Westerners to a 12–6 victory. She doubled in the first inning to score a run, singled in the second to bring home two more, and capped her day with a solo home run to right field in the seventh.
Western Texas College opened the scoring in the first inning on Medina's RBI double and added four more runs in the second, highlighted by RBI singles from Ramriez and Medina.
The Lady Westerners added an insurance run in the seventh on Medina's solo home run.
Ozuna started in the circle for Western Texas College, allowing six hits and four runs over six innings while striking out one and walking two.
Western Texas College finished game two with 16 hits, with Madrid, Morales, and Ramriez each recording multiple hits.
