No. 9 Westerners Post 56 Birdies at Poss High Country Shootout
Ruidoso, NM – The No. 9 Western Texas College men's golf team carded a combined 15-under in the opening round of the Poss High Country Shootout at The Links at Sierra Blanca in Ruidoso, NM.
Jayden Max Vergara led the way with a sizzling 64 (-8), highlighted by nine birdies. Huey Thowson followed with a strong 67 (-5), while George Edwards added a 68 (-4). Mason Hicks rounded out the first round with a 74 (+2).
In round two, the Westerners fired a 9-under team score. Thowson paced the squad with a 69 (-3), followed closely by Edwards, Hicks, and Vergara, who each posted 70s (-2). Edwards drained his first eagle of the season on hole 16, while Vergara matched him with his own eagle on hole 14.
During the final round, Edwards once again led the team, carding a 69 (-3). Thowson finished with a 73 (+1), Vergara shot 75 (+3), and Hicks closed with a 78 (+6).
The Westerners wrapped up the tournament with a team total of 847 strokes and recorded an impressive 56 birdies across three rounds a season high.
