Charles Post Double-Double as Westerners Roll Past Clarendon to Open Homecoming Week
SNYDER, TX — The Western Texas College Westerners (14–13, 6–7) kicked off Homecoming Week with a bang Monday night, rolling past Clarendon College (9–20, 2–11) 77–57.
How We Got There
Western Texas wasted no time taking control, building a commanding 43–21 lead heading into halftime. Anesu Dehwe and Isak Homelius combined for 26 first-half points, with both knocking down three three-pointers in the opening period to fuel the early surge.
Dehwe led all scorers with 22 points, connecting on four three-pointers and finishing 4-of-5 at the free-throw line. The performance marked his fifth 20-point game of the season.
Calven Charles was dominant in the paint, pouring in 17 points on an efficient 8-of-9 shooting while pulling down 13 rebounds to record his third double-double of the year.
Homelius added 13 points with three shots from beyond the arc. In comparison, Zayier Dean contributed seven points. He dished out a team-high five assists, the sixth time this season he has recorded five or more assists.
Off the bench, Rayan Fadika chipped in eight points and five rebounds, and Devonta Hilliard, limited to minutes, had four points and three steals.
Western Texas dominated the boards, finishing with 46 total rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end that led to key second-chance opportunities. The Westerners shot 25-of-54 (46.3%) from the field, 7-of-24 from three-point range, and 20-of-30 from the free-throw line. Defensively, they recorded 11 steals — the first time since January 15 against Odessa College that the team has tallied 10 or more steals in a game.
The win marks Western's sixth conference victory of the season and improves the Westerners to 14–13 overall as Homecoming Week continues.
