Westerners Win Wild One on Dehwe’s Buzzer-Beater
Big Spring, TX – In a game with 19 lead changes, Western Texas College edged the Leopards 82–80 on a last-second shot by Anesu Dehwe, extending their winning streak to five, their longest since 2020.
How We Got There
The Westerners shot 50% in the first half behind strong starts from Justin McCall and Zayier Dean, who each scored 10 points before halftime. WTC led 43–42 at the break.
In the second half, momentum swung both ways until Viktor Bystrom threw down a dunk to give WTC a 69–68 lead. With under a minute remaining, McCall buried a clutch three to pull the Westerners within one. As time expired, Dehwe hit the game-winner to seal the 82–80 victory.
McCall finished with 22 points and five rebounds, going 6–10 from three. Dehwe added 15 points and six rebounds, while Dean contributed 13 points, five assists, and four steals. Calven Charles added seven points and strong defensive play. Off the bench, Isak Homelius scored 11, and Bystrom posted a career-high 10 points with six rebounds.
WTC shot 47.3% overall, including a season-best 45.8% from three, and forced 10 steals in the win.
