WTC Falls in Double Overtime to Blinn College
Snyder, TX – Western Texas College saw a 15-point second-half lead slip away as Blinn College mounted a late comeback to secure a 92–89 double-overtime victory Thursday night at the WTC Coliseum.
The Westerners came out strong, taking a 37–29 halftime lead behind early three-pointers from Anesu Dehwe and efficient team play. WTC extended the lead to 46–31 with 16:43 remaining in the second half, but the Buccaneers chipped away, tying the game at 54–54 with just over six minutes left. Down four in the final minute, Dehwe drilled a clutch three-pointer with three seconds remaining to force overtime.
In the first extra period, Calvin Charles threw down a dunk off an assist from Isak Homelius to give WTC a 77–73 lead, only for Blinn to answer with a game-tying basket at 79–79. Double overtime came down to the final shot when the Buccaneers hit a decisive three-pointer to seal the win.
Western Texas College shot 43.9% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range, while Blinn countered with 50% shooting. The Westerners outscored Blinn in points off turnovers and second-chance points but were outrebounded 47–38. Justin McCall led WTC with 19 points, Isak Homelius added 17, Anesu Dehwe finished with 16, including the game-tying three in regulation, and Calvin Charles recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Westerners will look to rebound on Wednesday, Nov. 12, when they travel to McLennan Community College in Waco, TX, for a 7:00 PM matchup.
