WTC Welcomes Kyle Smith as New Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach
Western Texas College (WTC) is very pleased to welcome Kyle Smith as the new Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. The 2021-2022 season will be Smith’s first at WTC.
"I am very excited to be here at Western Texas College,” said Smith. “I am extremely thankful for the opportunity Coach Hardy has given me.”
“My job is to work hard, day in and day out, to help our players graduate with a degree from WTC, and play at the next level."
Prior to coaching at WTC, Smith coached at Victoria College (NJCAA D1) in Victoria, Texas, during the 2020-21 season. As both the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach for the Pirates, Smith helped lead Victoria College to their most wins during a season in program history. The team advanced to the Region 14 Elite Eight. The Pirates also sent two starters to four-year institutions during Smith’s time at Victoria College.
"Kyle’s core values, character, and professionalism line up with what we look for here in our athletic department,” said Matt Hardy, WTC's Men's Basketball Head Coach. “He has hit the ground running and will be a vital asset to our players and our basketball program."
Smith graduated from Allatoona High School in Acworth, Georgia in 2013. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration and Management with a minor in Communication from Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia. While playing for the Eagles, Smith was a two-time Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Academic team member.
